Basics of Supply Chain Management

Three-Day Course

This course is suitable for those people who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding of Supply Chain Management, as well as those who wish to gain international recognition for this knowledge. Those candidates who pass the examination will receive a certificate from APICS – The Association for Operations (USA).

This examination is also one of five, which if passed, lead to the awarding of the Certificate in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). This is an internationally recognised qualification in Supply Chain Management that has been awarded to over 80,000 professionals in more than 35 countries worldwide, of which 1,700 are from Ireland.

This course covers industry fundamentals, and provides a comprehensive overview of successful manufacturing strategies. It examines the basic concepts and language as well as the relationships between Master Planning, Inventory Management, Forecasting, Just-in-Time manufacturing, Material Requirements Planning, Capacity Management, Distribution, Production Activity Control, Total Quality Management, and Purchasing. Industry newcomers and those seeking to advance into management roles will benefit from this course.

The BSCM module that introduces supply chain concepts and emphasizes basic terminology is divided into four major areas: Business wide concepts for satisfying customer expectations include the concepts of inventory, pur­chasing, and physical distribution. This section of the outline covers basic business wide concepts, including the vari­ous production environments used for the transformation process and financial fundamentals. Also in this section, three of the more common companywide management approaches (MRP II, JIT, and TQM) are individually presented, together with their interrelationships. Determining and managing customer demand covers demand planning, includ­ing a basic understanding of markets and customer expectations, the definition of value, and a fundamental overview of demand forecasting. Managing the transformation processes used to satisfy customer demand includes the design, manage­ment, and control of the transformation process itself. The first part of this section includes the design of products, processes, and informa­tion systems used for planning. The rest of the section includes fundamen­tals of planning systems, execution controls, and performance measures. Managing the supply activity supporting transformation processes include the concepts of inventory, pur­chasing, and physical distribution.

COURSE STRUCTURE- This tutorial is conducted over three full days. All course sessions will be held on 19-21 May 2009 in Bewley’s Hotel, Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4

The candidates will be supplied with a Participant Guide, which provides comprehensive coverage of the 10 Sessions of study, a Reprints book, Exam Content Manual and APICS Dictionary.  The fee does not cover the examination registration.

COSTS - A fee of €850.00 includes course materials, lunches, Tea/Coffee breaks.
